The Most Current EPD’s on Canadian Charolais Herd Sires
Starting with the Fall of 2009 version of the growth evaluation, a significant change for breeders and users of Canadian Charolais genetics. This evaluation was conducted by Dr. Denny Crews and represents the first evaluation based on solely Canadian data in over ten years.
Approximately 2 years ago, the University of Georgia (UGA), along with several other US Universities, announced that they were exiting the business of genetic evaluation. This move led the board of directors and the Breed Improvement Committee to look for a long term, sustainable evaluation service provider. Many options were examined and it was determined that Dr. Denny Crews and his staff were the best long term solution for the Association and it’s membership. Dr. Crews has a high degree of familiarity with the Charolais data and has run the TGE evaluation for several years, as well as working with Charolais in various research efforts.
With Dr. Crews move to Colorado State University the CCA evaluation and the CCA now has a direct tie to the National Beef Cattle Evaluation consortium, a research group consisting of several universities that are directly involved in beef genetic evaluation research and development.
